Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding full-time position for a Senior Transportation Engineer in our Mokena, Itasca or Chicago office starting September, 2012. This position will support the firm’s transportation department with the planning and design of a variety of transportation facilities, and offer the opportunity to establish and maintain relationships with firm clients in our South Division (Cook, Kankakee, Kendall and Will Counties)

IL 1st Congressional District Mokena Transportation Senior Engineer Position Responsibilities:
- This individual works as a Senior Project Manager who oversees the design process or serves as a technical expert on specialized design projects. Provides advanced professional technical day-to-day support, guidance and input to other project team members. Directs and supervises other Engineering activities. The Sr.E II attends project meetings with clients to provide answers to project questions and to update project status.
- The Sr.E II prepares the scope of services, detailed project budget and contract for the Transportation Group Leader’s review and approval. Works within a team and with Transportation Department Managers to determine the composition of project team(s). Assigns tasks, schedules and budget to project team members (including any subcontractors). Coordinates project scheduling to completes assigned projects on time and within budgets.
The Sr.E II develops new business opportunities with existing clients, making frequent client contacts in our South Division. The Sr.E II monitors client satisfaction, sells new projects, and develops project follow-up work. Represents Baxter & Woodman, Inc. at selected client and industry functions and recommends business development activities in the South Division to the Transportation Group Leader.
IL 1st Congressional District Mokena Transportation Senior Engineer Requirements
- B.S. degree in civil engineering.
- Valid Illinois Professional Engineer license.
10 or more years of experience performing the following tasks in a transportation/highway engineering profession:
- Preparing and/or supervising the development of Phase I Project Development Reports and Phase II documents in accordance with the policies & procedures of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
- Reviewing and commenting on plans, specifications and estimates that conform with the policies and procedures of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
- Preparing and/or reviewing engineering contracts involving federal funding.
- Preparing and/or reviewing engineering contracts involving Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) and/or other State funding.
- Project administration (managing scope, schedule and budget) for multiple projects at the same time.
- Working knowledge of technical and office support software required to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Working knowledge of Microstation and GeoPAK is preferred.
- Managing and mentoring staff.
- Must have outstanding communication skills, business acumen and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams and motivate others.
- Experience in marketing, business development, and roadway/site drainage design.
- Design experience in preparing and/or supervising the preparation of plans, specifications and estimate that conform with the policies and procedures of the Illinois Tollway Authority is a plus.
